A not so distant look into the future of hair restoration

Whilst looking at various alternatives for hair loss we came across a story in The LosAngeles Times regarding robot- assisted hair restoration!

The technique is said to use robotic technology “ARTAS” to pluck hairs from the thicker fuller part of your head at the back and sides and then move them to the balding areas where necessary.

It normally takes eight to nine hours to individually harvest, by hand, the 1,000 follicle clusters needed to build a full mane of hair, according to Dr. James Harris, director of the Hair Sciences Center of Colorado in Denver.

However the machine is said to be able to complete the treatment much faster with a quicker recovery time according to Dr. Harris who has started treating patients after the robot was cleared by the FDA in America.

Whilst the robot is carrying out the treatment, the Doctor can watch on a monitor from another room to keep an eye on its handy work. The technique uses a special blade that removes the follicle without damaging it.

According to the story, the usual treatment would cost $5,000 to $10,000, but because it saves the physician time, they offer patients a discount if they let “ARTAS” do the follicle extraction.

Before you conjure up images of C-3PO chatting to you about your holidays whilst beautifying your Barnett, the treatment is currently licensed it to only the Restoration Robotics Inc. of Mountain View, California, the company that makes ARTAS.

Autumn is the season for hair loss

The weather has taken a turn for the chillier, the nights are drawing in, we’ve swapped fake tan for tights, maxi dresses for thick jumpers and invested in this season ‘must have’ boots (we just love these River Island hiking heels below, though we wouldn’t recommend climbing any mountains in them!).

All of this can only mean one thing - Autumn is here.

Known usually for falling leaves, scientists have identified this time of year may also mean falling hair…

The study followed 800 healthy women over a period of six years who experienced most hair loss through the Autumn months.

This is due to the hairs natural cycle as a human hair grows for between two and six years. At any one time, 90 per cent of our hair is growing, while the remainder is in a resting state (known as the telogen stage) for between two to six months, before it falls out.

The researchers found that most of the hairs were in the ‘resting’ or telogen stage around July, meaning most hairs fell out around October.

However, this doesn’t mean you need to panic buy hair extensions. Dr Hugh Rushton, from the University of Portsmouth, explains the evolution behind hair loss. We do not need hair for survival so if it's a choice between your hair growing or keeping blood going to vital organs, the former will suffer.

'Hair is an incredibly sensitive barometer. It can even forewarn you when there are no other symptoms of illness.'

We've been Bowen crazy!

It was an exciting day in the Furore office yesterday, as a variety of willing models enjoyed a Bowen Technique therapy session whilst trying their best to strike a pose!

The shoot took place to show the public the wide range of people and ages Bowen Therapy is suitable for. Anyone can have the treatment including, men and women, children and the elderly, sporty types and pregnant women.

For anyone who hasn’t experienced The Bowen Technique, it is a natural, drug-free non-invasive complementary therapy which was invented in Australia and introduced to the UK in the 1990’s. It works differently to a conventional oil massage you may have received where pressure is used to aid recovery and injury. Instead Bowen ‘asks’ the body to recognise the problem and make the change itself.

Using primarily fingers and thumbs, the Bowen practitioner makes small, rolling movements over muscles, tendons, ligaments and soft tissue at precise points on the body, using only the amount of pressure appropriate for that individual. No hard-tissue manipulation or force is needed or used.

The treatment has some celebrity followers with Bear Grylls and Radio 2 Presenter Janey Lee Grace both raving about their Bowen experiences.

Our models also appeared to have really enjoyed the variety of moves carried out by the practitioner, as you can tell by the photos!

The ever growing His Hair Clinic launches at sought after venue, The Cube, Birmingham

From opening their first clinic in Harborne, Birmingham five years ago the Birmingham born and bred duet Ian Watson and Ranbir Rai-Watson have now  joined forces with award winning celebrity hair stylist Adee Phelan to offer MHT scalp pigmentation in his new salon in Birmingham.

The salon is located in the highly anticipated luxury retail and leisure complex The Cube and will offer the opportunity for individuals to have MHT®  scalp pigmentation treatments and consultations in a private room at the salon. Being in the much sought after location of The Cube provides a more central location within the city for clients who are seeking MHT® treatment in a more luxurious location with a top hotel, restaurants and designer retailers within the complex.

The partnership between Adee Phelan and HIS Hair means that his new salon now caters for all types of hair wants and needs, from haircuts, colours and hair loss treatment in HIS Hair’s separate treatment rooms within the salon.

Award-winning Celebrity hairdresser, Adee Phelan believes MHT® is a great alternative to hair restoration options that are currently available. He says “I came across MHT® and thought it was an amazing technique. Finally there’s a product on the market that men who suffer from hair loss can relate to. Nowadays, cropped hair cuts are worn by a lot of men, so MHT® is perfect for those who want an on trend look.”

Due to the ever increasing popularity of the treatment there are also clinics on the prestigious Harley Street in London, Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles, as well as in Hong Kong and Marbella.
And next week HIS Hair will be launching a New York clinic on Fifth Avenue. There are also plans to open a Paris clinic in November and a Manchester clinic in December, this year. Will there be an end to their success?

Confidence - it's all in the hair

Whether its making sure they’re wearing their lucky pants, tapping ‘This is Anfield’ sign on the way through the tunnel, or waiting to come out until they are the last one on the pitch, footballers are notorious for strange rituals to help boost their ability and confidence.

But recently we have seen a new more hair raising issue affecting our footballers and their confidence. For in-the-spotlight-strikers Torres and Rooney, perfecting their Barnet seems to have made all the difference.

Just one year ago Wayne Rooney was hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons; sex scandals, speculation for his future at the red side of Manchester and the serious slump in scoring goals. The balding star was slating by the critics with many believing he was past his peak and the spiral of poor form continued with a total tally of 11 goals for the season.

Fast-forward to post Rooney-hair-transplant-gate and we see a different footballer on the pitch. Aside from the improved hair-line we see a striker who makes hitting the back of the net look easy. With 9 goals already including two hat-tricks, Rooney looks set to be a contender for the golden boot to go along with his golden locks.

Fernando Torres was once a hero at Liverpool, the kop would sing his praises and his song, almost claiming he was a scouse, but that all changed when the number nine decided to take a trip to the hairdressers.

His arm-band may have said he was a red, but his lacklustre performance on the pitch certainly didn’t. The Spaniard spent most of his time dubiously getting free kicks and miss-firing shots causing his cheeks to turn the same colour as his shirt. The World Cup was a similar story as he was sidelined for the latter games, not scoring a single goal.

His ridiculous price-tag put more pressure on the striker as he made the trip from Liverpool to London swapping colours en route. His performance and mood stayed Blue as he looked awkward against his former club beginning yet another goal drought. His miss of the millennium against Manchester United and two-footed straight-red tackle left Abramovich wondering why he had spent so much for so little.

But now Torres’s blonde bob hair has returned, Alice band and all, his confidence has grown too. He is more aware and alert, making runs and superb passes, being in the right place at the right time, looking like the Torres we all once knew. His goal scoring tally is slowly creeping up and the only difference is the length of his hair.

Co-incidence?

Ryan Giggs has reportedly had £30,000 hair treatment and he has played consistently since the mid-nineties! Wesley Sneijder is said to have recently visited a Hair Transplant clinic and is said to be verry happy with the results.
Above all, their hair has begun to grow again and, with it, like Wayne Rooney after his Harley Street transplant, their confidence has been restored.
